galerie nichido is the first gallery specialized in the Western-style oil painting in Japan founded in 1928. As a pioneer taking an essential part in popularization of the European art in the country, the gallery runs on an extensive scale handling a wide range of works from the French Impressionism to contemporary art, and concurrently holding a large assortment of works by Japanese masters and emerging artists.
galerie nichido has launched the Showa-kai, an annual contest of established for the purpose of promoting young emerging artists, started in 1966. The prize winners of the Showa-kai are now leading the Japanese art community, and contributing to enrich the cultural environment for succeeding generations. We have other branches in Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Karuizawa (open summer season) Japan and Paris, France.
nca | nichido contemporary art was founded in 2001, as a new division of Galerie Nichido, taking over the frontier spirit which galerie nichido, the main gallery has been advocating through introducing Western paintings widely in Japan since its establishment.

1972, the Nichido Art Foundation has opened the Kasama Nichido Museum of Art in Kasama City, Ibaraki Japan. The permanent collection covers works from the French Impressionism to American Pop Art including Japanese Masters of Modern Art. In addition there are over 350 palette paintings by old masters which artists has been used as actual palette.
In 2015, galerie nichido mark the 88th anniversary, we opened a new space in Taipei, called galerie nichido Taipei. Now we have two branches abroad in Taipei and Paris, which established in 1973.
In galerie nichido Taipei, we share the program with our contemporary branch, nca | nichido contemporary art, and trying to focus on Asian art mainly in both modern and contemporary in the future. We hope to take up this challenge to the next level, and create a strong platform for cultural exchange with Asia.
