February 14, 2025 - February 26, 2025 Closed Sundays and holidays

We are pleased to introduce "Shintaro Suzuki / Hitone Noma Two-person Exhibition."
They are both representative artists of Nikakai before the war who enthusiastically proceeded with their work. They founded Issuikai in 1955 and have been known as great western style painters who led the Japanese art industry.
Although Suzuki had trouble walking since his childhood, he walked around Japan and made his work by sitting. He created unique landscape paintings which focus the painted objects from the lower position. His motifs of dolls, fruit and flowers are loved by many fans.
Noma was born in the Setonaikai area and preferred to paint the colorful ocean sceneries. Additionally, he often painted the nature world such as animals and fish as well as myths and gathering and play of fairies in combination of fantasy and reality which are full of sensitivity fostered in his nature-rich hometown.
Their painting styles both show lovely simpleness which reminds us of child's mind with free composition and color sense apart from academic expressions that attracts viewers. Their popularity has not declined now even after over 30 years from their death. This is the first time to hold their two-person exhibition since 2013. Their works will certainly remind us of joy and warmth of oil paintings. Please enjoy the show.
