We are pleased to introduce the solo show of Mr. Mitsuru Suyama's new works.
It is his first large exhibition at Fukuoka Gallery since 2019.
He has held his atelier in Iriomote Island, Okinawa for over 30 years and has faced the nature and created realistic paintings mainly of the daily still objects such as seashells and flowers by blending them with scores of classical music.
He held a solo show at Galerie Nichido Paris in 2016 and he says that he became deeply fascinated by western architecture, in particular, the Notre Dame Cathedral during his stay in Paris.
Although the whole world trembled with its fire in 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral which Mr. Suyama paints reproduce its majestic figure before the fire.
The subtitle of this solo show is "Hope."
His great realism elaborately painted in detail may imply a prayer for the hope in the chaotic time we live in by synchronizing it with the Notre Dame Cathedral under reconstruction.
Through this solo show, we hope that each viewer enjoys the power and beauty of Mr. Suyama's works as well as finding their own "hope."
