Vlaminck/Katsuzo Satomi Exhibition
November 5 - 17, 2021 Closed Sundays
After moving to Paris from Kobe in 1921, Katsuzo Satomi accidently met Vlaminck in the fall of that year while Satomi was sketching in Auvers-Sur-Oise where he stayed. Since then, Satomi studied under Vlaminck and he was gradually attracted to not only his painting style but also his free style of living, and their friendship continued as long as 37 years until it ended by the death of Vlaminck.
Vlaminck was the leader of fauvism against academism and was influenced by the cubism to eventually move to his unique expressionism faithful for his own emotions. Satomi, on the other hand, who greatly transformed his painting style due to the encounter with Vlaminck also absorbed the fauvism and cubism, heading for, so to say, eclectic naturalism.
In this exhibition, we will trace the footprints of the two artists who achieved "painting faithfully following their intuitions" with approximately 40 pieces. Please enjoy the show.

He was influenced by Cezanne's Retrospective Exhibition in 1908 and had friendship with the companions of cubism and proceeded with studies, but eventually headed for his own painting style.
