Born in Kyoto, Japan.
Artist`s Chronoligy
1903 studied under Chu Asai at Kansai Bijutsuin (Fine Arts Academy of Western Japan)
1908 studied in France where he met Pierre-Auguste Renoir and became his pupil
1933 made his first trip to Taiwan. From 1934 to 1936, he was invited to Taiwan as judge for Taiwan Art Exhibition
1935 became a member of the Imperial Fine Arts Academy.
1944 taught as a professor of Tokyo University of Arts, along with Sotaro Yasui.
1952 received the Order of Culture from the Japanese government.
